Business Administration, A.S.

Purpose

This curriculum is designed for individuals who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university to complete a baccalaureate degree program in business administration with a major in accounting, business management, decision science and management, information systems, finance, marketing, etc.

Since four-year colleges can vary in their course and GPA requirements for the business major, please consult a counselor or an academic advisor regarding specific requirements and course selection.

This program is aligned with the Transfer Virginia common curriculum. Students are strongly encouraged to consult their academic advisor and review transfer options using the Transfer Virginia Portal, Where Can This Degree Transfer.

Recommended Preparation

Satisfactory completion of the following high school units or equivalent: 4 units of English; 2 units of mathematics (algebra and geometry); 1 unit of laboratory science; and 1 unit of social studies.

Two Years

Electives should be chosen with the advice of an academic advisor to meet the requirements of the intended transfer institution.

Students who are placed out of MTH 161 PreCalculus I may choose a higher-level math class or a BUS Elective. For students transferring to Virginia Tech, MTH 261 Applied Calculus I and MTH 262 Applied Calculus II are both required.

Students considering transfer should consult with an academic advisor for proper selection of ITE 140 Spreadsheet Software or BUS 240 Introduction to Business Law. Consult transfer guides via Resource Center Transfer Virginia for additional information.

Students must choose courses from two of the following three areas: Fine Arts, Humanities, and Literature. Credit will not be awarded for taking two courses from the same area.
